SUSPECT CONVICTED IN KILLING OF SPELLMAN STUDENT                                         

Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr. announced the conviction of 21-year-old Devonni Benton. Benton for the September 3, 2009 shooting death of Spellman student Jasmine Lynn.

GUILTY PLEAS IN COLLEGE STUDENT ROBBERIES

Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr. announced the convictions by guilty plea of three defendants charged in the armed robbery, kidnapping and shooting of two college students.  Maurice Brown, Antwon Hodge and DeAngelo Love pled guilty to the robbery, kidnapping and shooting of a Georgia State University Student and a Georgia Tech student.  Hodge was sentenced to 30 years, while Brown and Love received 25 year sentences.  The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Kenya Johnson.

 

HALL COUNTY: NOT GUILTY  Rape

Senior Assistant Public Defender Anne Watson successfully defended a client charged with: Rape (2 counts); Statutory Rape; Incest; Aggravated Child Molestation; Child Molestation; and Aggravated Sodomy (2 counts).  A Hall County jury deliberated for approximately 40 minutes before returning not guilty verdicts on all counts. The trial had lasted nearly a week.   

DEKALB COUNTY: NOT GUILTY Murder

A DeKalb County jury returned not guilty verdicts in a child death case.  The Defendant was charged with Malice Murder, Felony Murder, Aggravated  Assault and Cruelty to Children in the death of his 2 1/2 yr old stepdaughter.  Assistant Public Defender Corinne Mull represented the Defendant.  The trial took a week but the jury only took 2 1/2 hours to acquit.   

OGEECHEE JUDICIAL CIRCUIT: Back to Back NOT GUILTY Verdicts

Stuart Patray of the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit Public Defenders Office obtained a not guilty verdict on a  Monday and a not guilty verdict on a different case on Tuesday.

MADISON COUNTY: NOT GUILTY: Vehicular Homicide/D.U.I.

Jana Waley of the Northern Circuit Public Defender’s Office obtained not guilty verdicts in a Vehicular Homicide/D.U.I. Less Safe case.  The Defendant was charged for the death of his wife in a car wreck.  The Defendant, who had alcohol in his system, was making a left turn, when his car was T-boned on the passenger side of his car, by a young girl running late for church.  His wife, sitting in the front passenger seat was killed.  

NEWTON COUNTY: NOT GUILTY Child Molestation

Jennifer Arndt of the Newton County Public Defender’s Office got a not guilty verdict on her first Child Molestation/ Sexual Battery Case.

 CLAYTON COUNTY: NOT GUILTY Armed Robbery

A Clayton County jury returned a not guilty verdict in an armed robbery case.  Brandon Lewis was the defense attorney.
